SETTLERS OF CANAAN - Game Details

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Jim (12) - Steve (11) - Jack - Scott

With a new guy at the table, the three wiley veterans decided to take it easy on Steve. But the rookie impressively held his own the whole night. Jack swore he'd changed strategies, only to battle Steve the entire game for the longest road. Scott and Jim divided their initial placements, north and south, and east and west, respectively. The game progressed with strings of 5's and 9's being rolled. These helped Jim to amass loads of resources. Jack, jumping out to an early lead, was targeted by the others for the plague and subsequent Priest cards, and was raided for resources. Steve fortuitously bought 2 VPs via Development Cards. Jim appeared to be cruising to an easy victory when he rolled the plague while holding 15 cards in his hand! But it would only delay the inevitable. On his last turn, Jim built four stones for Jerusalem, trading in loads of grain at 2:1 through his port on the Med, and surged ahead for the win. Good thing, since Steve, who would go next, was prepared to reach 12 VPs himself.
